Pioneering glucose monitor scoops international accolade

The design of the world’s first non-invasive blood glucose monitoring device has won a prestigious European-wide award.

European Product Design Award Personal/Wellness and Beauty: Other Designs category winner Glucowear by Afon Technology

A version of Afon Technology’s Glucowear triumphed in the ‘Personal/Wellness and Beauty: Other Designs’ category of the European Product Design Award announced on Thursday, 19 December 2024.

Glucowear has been designed for Afon and submitted by the Medical Design Group.

It is lilac coloured with a silver buckle. The device is in a white rectangle box with a photo of Glucowear on the front. Also in the box is a lilac charging port which Glucowear sits in to charge.

The award recognises and honours the expertise of international product and industrial designers who strive to improve our daily lives with their practical and well-thought-out creations.

European Product Design Award Personal/Wellness and Beauty: Other Designs category winner Glucowear by Afon Technology - Glucowear looks like a rounded square device about the size of 50p coin with straps similar to a smart watch. It is lilac coloured with a silver buckle. The underside of Glucowear has a round silver sensor and the straps have numbers next to every second adjustment hole so it sits on the users wrist in the same place consistently.

Glucowear™ is Afon Technology’s pain-free continuous blood glucose monitor that is set to make life easier for people with diabetes by removing the need for needles when monitoring blood sugar levels.

It is black with a silver buckle and sits in a charging port that is only a little bigger than the device. The port envelopes half of the sensor. Glucowear sits next to a smartphone with glucose readings on in the form of charts.

It is lilac with a silver buckle. The lilac compact charging port sits to the left, designed for the Glucowear device to slide in and charge. Two smartphones display glucose readings in different formats; charts and numbers, and third smartphone displays a ‘get started’ screen for setting up Glucowear.

Afon Technology has won a number of awards, recently picking up the Health and Safety Gold Award, highlighting the company’s outstanding dedication to health and safety excellence.
