Winter Wellness and Diabetes Tips

If you have diabetes, the colder and shorter days can affect our moods, activity levels, and eating habits. This season, use our winter wellness and diabetes tips to prioritise self-care.

Eat nutritiously

Choose warming meals like porridges, soups, and stews with lots of colourful fruit and veg, to brighten your mealtimes up.

Stay warm

Keep cosy with warm socks, gloves, and breathable layers that help maintain circulation. Remember to dry off quickly if you get wet.

Have a ‘Sick Day Plan’

Plan for any illnesses by keeping nourishing meals in your freezer, staying on top of any medication supply, and knowing who to contact if you need help.

Move indoors

Being too dark or cold outside are legitimate reasons to not want to exercise outdoors so keep active indoors instead. Choose whatever suits your activity level best, whether it’s yoga for gentle stretching or energetic dance workouts.

Rest and de-stress

Although it feels like it’s ramping up into party season, it’s okay to take time to relax and slow down. Prioritise good sleeping habits, calming evening routines, and mindful activities.
